Service Opportunities

Every Christian is a minister/servent for Jesus Christ. Listed below are the different opportunities for service led by our Deacons. Other areas exist and others are added as needed. Everyone desiring to serve in these and other areas should contact one of the deacons or elders.

Ghana Mission

Since 1961, we have made a major commitment to Ghana, West Africa where over 100,000 Christians now worship. The Ghana Bible College was established in 1961 and has been a key factor in the success of the Ghana work since then. Native men are trained to be preachers to spread the gospel throughout Ghana and surrounding countries. Each year 10-15 young men were trained to preach the Word. The college grew under the leadership of Samuel Obeng, then president of the college. A board of directors was chosen and today the college is operated entirely by the Ghanaian brethren. In the 1980's the number of churches in Ghana doubled from 120 to 240 with the number of Christians at 35,000. In the 1990's the college expanded, doubling the number of students to 30 each year. New congregations were established daily. Preachers returned to their home countries to preach in Ethiopia, Gambia, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Libya and many more.

The college celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2002. Today there are 1800 churches in Ghana with 300,000 Christian.

Domestic Missions

NYC Missions - Bronx, New York - Cedars is supporting a mission effort to establish the Lord's church in Bronx, New York. Two of the mission team families are Jared and Hylma Looney and Todd and Becky Foster. The group is being assisted by the Manhattan Church of Christ.

Ely Lambert - Laurel Church of Christ - Cedars is providing support for Ely to continue additional Biblical training for his work as minister of the Laurel congregation.

Milford Church of Christ - Cedars is providing financial support to the church in Milford, Delaware. The group had their first meeting in May with 17 people in attendance. Cedars is also providing men to speak twice a month during 2004. They are searching for a new minister.

Cape May Court House Church of Christ - Cedars helps to financially support this church. A new minister has been recently hired to work with the church at this location.

Camp Manatawny - Cedars supports one of the youth retreats in the spring. Cedars provides funds from donations to provide campships for children needing financial assistance.

University of Delaware Campus Ministry - Cedars helps support this ministry in Newark, DE. The DE Christian Campus House is located near the campus. The address is 17 East Park Place, Newark, DE.
